Irritable bowel Synd: Statistically, irritable bowel syndrome would be the commonest in a 48 years old woman. However other more important conditions must be ruled out. They include inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal tumors and lactose intolerance. Gynecological causes from the ovaries and uterus have to be considered too. You may start with your pcp who can refer to appropriate specialists.
