Depends: I would never accept severe pain with growing pains.Persistent,yes,but severe, never.If they prevent or wake him from sleep, prevent him from enjoying activities to some level, they are not growing pains.Things like bone cancer come to mind with severe pain.If your description is valid it is time for a thorough evaluation.
