The glands left of my adam's apple now feel painful to the touch but not when i swallow. i am aware this may be cancer but not 100% sure, please specify what it could be.

Get examined: Tenderness in that area can be from muscular irritation/inflammation, carotid artery inflammation, thyroid inflammation or tender inflamed lymph glands. I gather that you feel no masses. If tenderness persists beyond a day or two, a physician should examine you for diagnosis and advice.
