Doctor can evaluate: A person with chest pain needs a doctor's evaluation, often at the E.R., to rule out a heart attack. Depending on age and other risk factors, a heart attack can be less likely or more likely. Since a person can't really tell, she gets evaluated at the E.R. just to be on the safe side. Lung disorders and rib cage problems are possible causes of chest pain too.
