Nerve root injury : Your description is suggestive of someone that is suffering from cervical radiculitis. Injury to the nerve root as it exits the foramen can lead to pain, pins and needles (paresthesias), numbness, and/or weakness. In someone of your age group the most likely cause is a disc herniation. I would suggest that you meet with your doctor to discuss further treatment.
