If the fluid collection is excessive, the feature will be monitored. Many will require treatment after delivery and some before. Each case is managed based on individual features.

Detailed Survey: If hydrocephalus is detected during a fetal ultrasound, a detailed evaluation of the fetus would be performed in an effort to detect causative lesions or associated anomalies in order to better guide further assessments. Amniocentesis for genetic evaluation is frequently suggested as well.

Serial ultrasounds: Will show if the fluid ⬆es or stays stable. The OB may ask a perinatologist or fetal-maternal medicine specialist to follow the pregnancy & help decide the safest timing & mode of delivery. (s)he may ask a pediatric neurosurgeon to review the fus's & be available at delivery, if need be. You may wish to consult a prenatal genetic counselor. Developmental follow-up after birth would be wise.
