Usually nothing.: Echogenic material in the fetal stomach is sometimes seen in prenatal ultrasound, but is usually of no clinical significance. This may be swallowed vernix caseosa, desquamed epithelial clumps, or metabolic products of subchorionic blood after a hemorrhagic episode. In the latter case, the fetal gastric debris is still not a problem in and of itself, rather a marker of a previously existing problem.
