Is the complication rate low or high with gallbladder removal? my dad is going to have his removed and im very nervous

Depends on his Heath: The risk of gallbladder surgery through laparoscopic cholecystectomy is very low but ultimately depends upon your Dad's overall health and other medical conditions. His doctor and the anesthesiologist should be able to review those risks with you. Typically the risks are quite low and recovery is a few days.

Low: gallbladder surgery is a very routine surgery, nowadays done laparoscopically. As with any procedure there is a chance of complications, however it is fairly low (major complications <1%). If the patient has no underlying cardiac or pulmonary problems, risk of procedure is very low. Risk goes up with age, and more medical problems.

Pretty low. : For a healthy patient with an elective gallbladder surgery the risks are low. Obviously, if the patient has preexisting health problems the risks can be higher. If concerned. Have your dad see his medical doctor for " clearance" prior to surgery.
