Bruised Finger: Initially you can reduce the symptoms with elevation of the affected part, use of ice packs (applied for around 10-20 minutes only and away for 2 hours to prevent skin injury) and the use of simple pain killers (over the counter medications). If symptoms persist for few days it might indicate a possible infection and you will need to seek advice of your doctor for assessment and proper management

Get an X Ray: If this was a high impact injury you need to get an X Ray done to rule out a fracture. In the meantime you can buddy strap this ginger to the adjacent longer finger to keep it immobilised.

Antiinflammatory med: if not allergic I would recommend Advil (ibuprofen) or Aleve ( naproxen sodium) with local ice o the the affected finger; however you will need an x-ray to rule out a fracture.

?xray needed: If you are quite sure there is no broken bone the keeping it propped up above the level of the heart will help keep the swelling down. You can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain. If you have trouble moving the finger or if the pain is severe, see a doctor for an xray.
