Viral illness: It may be a simple case of bronchitis and I am happy that you are feeling 75% better. Stop smoking, drink plenty of fluids, and rest. Should you develop persistent fever, shortness of breath, chest pain, and worsening cough, you would need to see your pcp or go to the emergency room right away.

Acute bronchitis: This is 95-98% viral and unresponsive to antibiotics. When it is bacterial it is unlikely to be effectively treated with ceftin, (cefuroxime) and in any event the duration of therapy was far too long. You would have gotten better just as quickly if you had done nothing. Stop smoking entirely. Do not take antibiotics without seeing a doctor who understands this illness.
