Interference.: Not all broken bones have to have surgery for satisfactory healing. Having said that, if it is determined that the pin inserted during a previous procedure has the potential to interfere or even prevent proper healing of the current fracture, then surgery is entirely possible.

Varies: If it is non displaced, there can be some role for a trial of nonoperative care in a splint or cast. If it is displaced, then surgery would likely be required, which often required removal of the retained hardware and placement of more hardware to span and "fix" the new fracture.
