I got surgery on thursday to put screws into my 3rd and 4th metacarpals after i broke them. my hand is still very swollen and my fingers are looked bruised and have yellowness to them. is this normal? thanks ~cody

No: No, definitely not normal, I would make sure your surgeon is aware. Among many possibilities, it might represent an issue with the IV if you had one on that side; or could it possibly be that in the same injury in which you injured your foot you also injured your hand? I would be seen and evaluated for it.

Yes: Make sure you call your treating surgeon and follow up as directed. Bruising from your original injury turns yellow as your immune system cleans up the damage, like a black eye. If you can wiggle your fingers and feel all of your fingers on both sides be able to report that to your surgeon. In person is the best place to evaluate your neurovascular status and any postoperative problem.
