Early deficiency: Serum ferritin drops off before anemia appears or red cell indices go abnormal. Your physician will ask you about diet, your cycle, and whether you're perhaps having blood loss via the gut -- he / she will check. If you are a non-supplementing vegetarian, please reconsider. Is iron supplementation ever warranted if ferritin is somewhat low? 30 ng/mL(ref 6-137). No anemia, normal CBC. I know GP needs to guide meds, but curious if low ferritin can cause symptoms. Can B12 injections for def. use up iron stores?

I had a CBC that was normal. 7 days later, start Bactrim for Lyme. 5 days thereafter, CBC shows mild anemia (low: RBC, Hgb, Hematocrit), with normal iron/ferritin. Low Folate, normal MCV. IS THIS FOLATE DEFIC. ANEMIA OR BACTRIM: APLASTIC ANEMIA?
