Can speed recovery: Garlic has a long history of folk use for treating colds. While I have not seen good research on this it is safe to try and many people have found it useful. When garlic is freshly crushed you get allicin which has proven antiviral activity; see http://homeremediesforlife.com/garlic-for-cold/ A better proven remedy for colds is pellargonium sidoides, sold as Umcka; see http://tinyurl.com/ztoepsy

I do not claim to be: Any type of expert on food supplement; however, from what i was informed, any benefits of garlic are obtained by eating fresh garlic from the clove. It is possible that any "good" chemicals in the garlic may be lost with the pickling process.
