Probably awake: Sometimes mild sedation is used especially is you are nervous or agitated. With this you would be awake. If it is clear that you are going to be electrically shocked, conscious sedation may be used. With this you would be asleep but not unconscious. If no shock is necessary, and you are calm, there may be no need for sedation at all.

Changed: In the past the patient was completely sedated with propofol (I think). NOW, some are beginning to use "conscious sedation" = patient is comfortable/but not completely sedated. I recommend using Fentanyl + Versed for the conscious sedation. You will need to discuss this with your EPS MD ahead of time. HRS, MD, FACC www.thepmc.org
