Chronic fatigue: The cause or causes (there may be more than one) of chronic fatigue syndrome are unknown. An infection is possible but not proved. If it's an infection, it is not easily transmitted. The frequency of CFS is no higher in friends, coworkers, or sex partners of people with CFS. There is no known risk from dating such persons, with or without sexual contact.
