Colds: A cold will run its course. Rest and fluids are all that's necessary. Antihistamines will not help his symptoms unless he sleeps well when he takes benadryl (diphenhydramine).

VIRAL INFECTION: If still congested, you can take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 2 tsp at bedtime or a 25 mg. Tablet.
