A member asked:

My 6 year old daughter took a childrens claritin at 8:30am, it is now 1pm, is it safe to give her benadryl?

You can overlap use of these two antihistamines with no problem. The Benadryl is sedating to most so I would be aware of this side effect.

The allergic reaction may continue for days and if the symptoms are not well controlled, an evaluation is indicated. The allergic triggers should be identified, and testing is available. Watch for signs of shortness of breath, respiratory difficulty, rash and GI upset. Please follow up with your Pediatrician. A virtual consultation with Healthtap is available. Specific symptoms? would be helpful.
