No. Your surgery was: done with "sterile technique" so that no bacteria are introduced during the surgery. The tendon area is also sterile, so no bacteria could come from the surgical site. Your doctor will observe you closely for infection; tho rare, it can occur. Antibiotics can do more harm than good in this case since they can cause harmful side effects and promote antibiotic resistance. Dr. Anne

Antibiotic.: Not all operations require antibiotics afterwards. That being said, you may want to inquire on the day of your surgery (before you have the surgery, not after) to see if you will receive a prescription upon discharge afterwards.

Anything goes.: Some surgeons opt to put antibiotics in the IV at the time of surgery, while others give a prescription to be filled after. Still others do not use antibiotics unless the need arises. The choice is really up to the surgeon and/or the facility the surgery is being performed at.

Post op: Antibiotics are not typically given after surgery for what sounds like a planned, elective surgery which did not include an infectious aspect to it. Ask your surgeon's office too. He/she will be happy to explain their protocol regarding your surgery
