Typically: Typically if a cast is used, it is fiberglass, but it is surgeon (hospital's) preference.

Cast: Although it is the surgeon's preference , they are used less and less now.

Below the knee cast: Some may use a below the knee cast, while others may use a rigid walking boot. Yes fiberglass can be used. It all depends on the type of surgery and the level of immobilization that will be required.

Depends: on the procedure performed and the fixation used. Most of the time fiberglass casts are used vs. plaster casts. Also, many times patients are put into a removable boot after surgery. Ask you podiatrist what his or her plan is.
