Not really: It's not rare, not dangerous, and usually we never find an explanation. It seems unrelated to anything. Just follow it. Your physician will decide when to check for for a possible mutation that drives essential thrombocythemia -- but the best rule is probably, "If you aren't going to treat it or do anything different based on the test results, don't do the test."
