Endocarditis: The symptoms you describe, fever weight loss and malaise, are seen with subacute bacterial endocarditis (SBE), an infection of a heart valve. They are also seen with a variety of other conditions, though, so you need to see a physician right away to sort this out. Blood cultures are usually but not always positive with SBE.
