Not very common: This condition occurs most often after one major or repetitive milder injuries to the ankle such a fracture or sprains. For mild cases, an ankle brace and physical therapy can be helpful. For more severe cases where the tendons slide easily over the fibula, surgery to stabilize the supporting structures is necessary.
