Surgery: The retinaculum is a band that holds the peroneus muscle tendons down against the outside aspect of the foot. It provides a tunnel through which the tendons maintain their position and fulcrum action. Surgery is the only way to correct this problem. Since the retinaculum is ligamentous and has no true blood supply it cannot heal itself and thus surgical repair is necessary. See you foot doctor!!

Surgical repair: A complete tear of this retinaculum can lead to a chronic dislocation of these tendons. Most often a complete rupture is repaired surgically.
