Yes: Yes the white spots are called exudates and they can be seen both with viral or bacterial tonsillitis. The appearance of white spots is frequently seen with strep throats so it would be a wise idea to see your GP and get swabs done to rule out a stew throat. However if you are feeling that you are improving then there is no need for this.
