Ultrasound scan: You could have hit your leg against something either earlier on or during the night. The bruising could be a delayed symptom. It could also be due to an abscess formation, insect bite or even worse a blood clot. The swelling could compress on the nearby muscles, nerves and blood vessels that can give you pain or a funny sensation in your toes/ ankle. You need to see a Dr to get an Ultrasound scan
