GERD symptoms. : PPI medications don't stop the reflux, but they do help symptoms, to which you have alluded. Heartburn. Chronic cough. GERD can even mimic sinusitis and allergies. If you are symptom-free, then the PPI is likely not offering you any real benefit, as non-acidic reflux can be damaging to the esophagus just like acidic reflux.
