Not typical but can: gallstone pain usually tends to be intermittent unless a stone gets stuck and lodges in the cystic duct or common bile duct. In this case we would be concerned for possible "acute cholecystitis" and ultrasound would usually be the first step in diagnosis. CT may be useful to see if stone in CBD. People differ however, and it is possible for some to feel more constant pain from stones alone.

Pain from gallstones: is usually episodic and lasts 6-8 hrs after a large meal. If it is constant, it could mean infection. If you have upper abdominal pain with gallstones, you need operation soon. Get to your doctor asap for advice.
