Vitrous / retina: This can be just a benign problem in the gel in the middle of the eye or could be a sign of retinal disease-that could be visual threatening. You should see an ophthalmologist for a detailed evaluation with dilation of the eyes. Given your age this is very unusual.

Floaters: You are seeing shadows cast by the jelly-like fluid that fills the eye, the vitreous. We call these floaters. New floaters can be a sign of a serious eye problem like a hemorrhage or retinal detachment. Most people learn to ignore their floaters, and you should, too.
