Sudden cardiac death: SCD means a cardiac arrest which occurs shortly (usually defined as <1 hour) after the first symptom. Aborted SCD would mean that the cardiac arrest was treated, e.g. by defibrillation. Causes of SCD include acute myocardial infarction, ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation, and heart failure.
