Abnormal rhythm: The normal heart beat starts in the sinus node of the right atrium. An arrhythmia is when the heart beats too fast, too slow, starts in a different place, or if the electrical activity of the heart circulates through a different pathway than the normal paths.

Abnormal heart beats: Normal heart rhythm is known as sinus rhythm where the electrical impulse originates in the right upper heart chamber and has a normal variation depending upon the demands of the body. The electrical impulse is conducted through the heart from upper to lower chambers. Arrhythmias are due to abnormal electrical impulse formation or abnormal electrical impulse conduction.

Abnormal heart beat: Cardiac arrhythmias are abnormalities of the electrical conduction system of the heart that may lead to very fast rhythms, slow rhythms, and/or disorganized cardiac contractions. Some arrhythmias are important to diagnose and treat because they may lead to insufficient blood being pumped to critical organs, such as the heart and brain, and produce symptoms. Others are completely asymptomatic.
