No more: time to be seen by your doctor, it could have started as a viral upper respiratory tract infection, but didn't resolve on its own and bacteria might have kicked in, hence you may need prescription medications, meanwhile use salt water gargles and pain killers , rest and fluids till seen, good luck

It depends...: I think this depends on what type of doctor. From your symptoms the odds are very high that this is a viral infection. Research studies show that antibiotics are likely to do more harm than good. However, herbs, homeopathic medicines and acupuncture may help so if your Dr. offers these it would help to go.
