See below: Otitis media with effusion(OME) is less common in adults than in children. In children it follows acute otitis media. In adults it's usually due to Eustachian tube dysfunction. ETD can be the result of sinusitis, allergy, deviated septum, nasopharyngeal tumor, large tonsils or adenoids or frequent URI's.
