Texas criteria: The Texas Department of Health Care Services publishes criteria for day care exclusion due to a variety of illnesses. It provides that the duration of fever is the only period for exclusion. This is considered a rather minor affliction & usually occurs in young kids. Actual spread via respiratory or oral secretions may be 1-3 weeks. Private day cares may have their own criteria.
