Why do some people not need as much sleep as other people? i need at least 10 hours, and my friends need 6. is it healthier to be either person?

Teens need more: Hi Jackson, How much sleep a person needs can vary substantially from person to person. Most of us need about 8 hours, but some need more or less (a typical range is 6 to 10). Some of the variability in sleep need is due to genetics; some is due to environment, behavioral, and cultural. How much one sleeps can also be affected by medical problems/medications. You're both within the range.
