Carpal tunnel : You may have carpal tunnel syndrome, characterized by hand pain and recurrent numbness or "pins and needle" sensations in the thumb, index, middle finger and the lateral aspect of the ring finger. The symptoms may be triggered by use (driving, keyboard use). Wearing a cock- up splint is very effective. Surgery reserved for severe cases. Check with your physician for diagnostic testing with ncv.

Numbness : Most people first notice numbness in their hands. Carpal tunnel syndrome is basically a pinched nerve in your wrist. As the nerve is deprived of blood, oxygen and nutrients it functions abnormally. As it progresses numbness turns to pain and the motor component of the nerve is affected causing weakness. A thorough exam by a hand surgeon can help diagnose your problem.
