Doctor eval: That is definitely abnormal and cause for concern. He needs to be evaluated immediately. Take him to the hospital to make sure he hasn't had a stroke.

Unusual: I have had two cases of dementia patients who walked or would only wheel themselves backwards. One i found after careful review had been a pow and was only allowed to walk backwards while in the pow camp. His introduction to a locked unit at an assisted living facility=memory? We never resolved it. The second case resulted in greater muscle strength thus his mobility was greater with fewer falls.
