Common - not normal: Chipping of teeth happens for a number of reasons. Grinding your teeth and other habits can result in chipped teeth. Tooth decay can weaken a tooth and also cause chipping and fracture. Trauma such as an accident or a blow to the teeth can also cause this. While it may be common, it's not healthy or normal. See a dentist to find out why they are chipping.

For the most part: Teeth chip and fracture for many different reasons. Although the hardest substance in your body, bite the wrong way at the wrong time and you will chip or fracture a tooth. Have a dentist determine the cause of your fractures and how to restore the affected teeth.
