Abnormal: Blood on stool or the toilet paper isn't normal, but if it's bright red, in small amounts and there are no other bowel symptoms, it may well be due to benign conditions such as hemorrhoids or anal fissure. If it persists, see your physician, proctologist, or a colonrectal surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. They will decide whether anoscopy, proctoscopy, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy is advisable.
