Depends on tooth: If it's a front deciduous (baby) tooth then extraction is a good option. If it's a side or back baby tooth try to keep it to avoid problems when the permanent teeth come in. Your dentist will give you good advice .

Infection: Infection requires immediate treatment. Best space maintainer is a natural tooth. Pulpotomy preserves tooth in place. If unsuccessful, tooth can be removed at a later date as needed. If tooth has to be removed, a space maintainer will probably be required.

Infection: Your daughter has an infection that needs to be treated and both options are valid treatments. If this tooth is a molar then space maintainer will be required to preserve the space for the permanent tooth. In my practice I try to save the tooth if possible because a tooth is the best space maintainer. Listen to the recommendation f your dentist.

What I do when.....: Ask the dentist what he would do for his daughter and why. Either one may be a better choice given the specific circumstances present (which we cannot know over the internet, sight unseen). Generally speaking it's better to try to preserve teeth.
