Cold vs influenza: Were you diagnosed with the flu? often we call colds the "flu", but influenza is actually a viral infection, and the treatment for that is different than for other bugs. (Clear phlegm indicates that this is unlikely a bacterial infection that needs antibiotics.) allergies can cause these symptoms, and if you haven't tried antihistamines, they may be helpful. See your doc if symptoms persist
