Is alprazolam .25 mg three times a day, when taken as directed by a physician, a very large dose for this rx?

Not at all: In fact it is the lowest common dose used for effective Tx. The high common is .5 3X - so you are fine as far as dose. Is it working for you? Do you suffer side effects? If you're ok - that's good - if not, talk w/ your Dr. Never just quit w/o advising Dr and getting suggestions on how to be safe.
