Hello. : Hello. First congratulations on your pregnancy. Second, I am really glad that your doctor is tapering you off of xanax (alprazolam). It is fda pregnancy category d. This means it should be avoided during pregnancy. There are other medications that can be used during pregnancy for anxiety that would be much safer. I don't know if use of xanax (alprazolam) has had any impact on your baby. However, by tapering off of it, your can prevent your baby from being born with an addiction with potentional for withdrawal after birth. Take care.

Risk almost done.: The risk is of cleft lip and palate increases by 2/10, 000 births. The palate closes at about 9 weeks. It can be used judiciously, at night for sleep for example. Mental health is important and the benzos, among physicians, can be a hot topic. Xanax (alprazolam) is short acting. Unlikely to have fetal dependence or "floppy baby" w/low dose. Mass general women's psych website will be your best info.
