A member asked:

What is the risk of me getting severe botulism and dying in my lifetime?

Hard to say: This is a relatively rare condition and or cause of death. To provide a more complete answer we would need to ask many questions about your lifestyle and exposure potential. Since this is not a chat room and these are unknown to us, we just can't say.

Zero (or close to 0): In the U.S., the annually reported cases of an adult getting botulism is about 1 in 10 million (severe cases or deaths from it are fewer than that, of course), which is essentially zero risk if a person is careful about what she eats.
