Depends: On the hives, prednisone dose, other medications you are on, the cause for the hives, if any. Kindly see your doctor and consider referral to a dermatologist or an allergist, meanwhile, unless contraindicated, you can take OTC antihistamines, preferably the newer ones, as cetirizine or loratadine, twice a day, which is double the recommended dose, till you see your doctor/specialist, best wishes
