Demand & Gravity.: Exercising causes more blood to be pumped to the muscles that are being heavily exerted and less to those that are not. This may cause less blood to flow to the hands and feet, causing the vessels to dilate to receive more blood. Because of the peripheral location of the hands and feet, blood has a harder time returning to the heart. This slowdown causes swelling and redness to the hands and feet.
