Urethral irritation: The urethra is damaged when subjected to infection of any type. It may take time for it to fully heal. Often scarring occurs with inflammation, and in the urethra this may lead to stenosis or narrowing of the passage. Help the healing by avoiding irritants to the bladder like nicotine, caffeine, alcohol and spices that are "hot" to the mouth. Drink 10 + cups of water daily to clear the urine.

Inflammation : It is not uncommon to have some residual inflammation after successful treatment with antibiotics. Urologic re-evaluation is recommended when symptoms persist more than several weeks after treatment.
