Only skin-to-skin: HPV transmissiont occurs only by direct contact between infected skin or mucous membrane tissues. It does not enter the bloodstream and is not known to infect wounds. I suppose that could happen, but in 40 years in the STD business I have never seen a patient with HPV of a finger, with or without skin wounds.
