Why: Oral thrush is diagnosed by visual exam in most cases. I don't recall every running the scrape and stain testing outside of medical school. It just adds time and cost to the encounter and doesn't change the plan of treatment. The germ of thrush is a normal contaminant of the total GI tract and the treatment is innocuous.I am surprised the doc didn't look, consider that bad form.
