A member asked:

Im having high blood preassure with elavil (amitriptyline) 10mg...is this common? im 34 yrs b/p 151/101...

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Elavil (amitriptyline): Techically, elavil (amitriptyline) can have anticholinergic effects which can theoretically raise blood pressure. However, the dose is so small, that I doubt this is the cause of the elevated reading. Recheck the BP manually after 5 min resting in a seated position. Discuss with your doctor discontinuing the elavil (amitriptyline).
